I realize this is my photography blog, but I wanted to share something a little more than my awesome pictures. lol...
I'm not sure why it took me until my oldest was in school (not using the Summer time) to organize things, but at least it's happening! Here are some super easy and CHEAP ways to help organize areas in your home.
First, we will attack the Cabinet. I am lucky to have a 'large' enough cabinet next to my fridge that houses a lot of 'stuff'. I noticed it starting to be a catch all for 'stuff' I wanted out of site. If I needed to clean up in a hurry, it got shoved in the cabinet. Here I have things organized in baskets, or buckets that I already had. I purchased these when they were on clearance a long time ago. You can use whatever you have, search for something you like, or find something on clearance somewhere.
I put adult medication in one 'bin', children's medication in one and first aid items in another. I have my Scentsy items in one bin, Craft and Sticker items in another. These are small items for the kids, such as play-doh, small coloring sheets and more. I also have letter size (8.5x11) paper bins stacked for construction paper, printer paper and notebooks/coloring books.
My drawers, my drawers. Talk about another catch all! I used the kids old shoe boxes (I can still do this since my kids are only 2 and 5) to make my own drawer organizers. Of course, you can go buy nice fancy drawer organizers, but that can become expensive. Look around the house for something you already have, and I ALWAYS keep their shoe boxes. Just like this, you never know when they can come in handy.
I removed the lids, cut off lids for those that were attached. I decided what I wanted to put in each box and figured out the best way to put all of the boxes in the drawer. Here is where a label maker can come in really handy! Of course, if you don't have a label maker, simply hand write what is supposed to be in each box. Such as, pens/pencils/markers, batteries, tools (for those screwdrivers and such that seem to stay in the house), etc. I put my labels onto a brightly colored piece of paper, sure to not be missed when putting items away, and taped it to the inside bottom of the box.
For my counter top, I bought some 'cracker' jars from Wal-Mart to put crayons and markers in. There really is nothing more to say about my counter top organization, since it's pretty basic.
Just be sure to make sure you put things back where they belong and you will have no issues staying organized!
